About 2 months ago i injured my back due to heavy lifting. The doctor claims it was a prolapsed disc which pressed against the sciatic nerve running down my left leg.
I’m going to physical therapy for it, and they have me doing all sorts of excersises, but I’m afraid that they aren’t helping as much as they should. Somedays the pain is gone, but on others it is back as strong as ever. I’ve been on painkillers and muscle relaxants which I found I am allergic to, so I am currently not taking any medication for it.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I should do other than not straining the injured area? I’d like to avoid surgery. Thank you in advance.

I currently go to a pain management clinic. A horse fell on me and I,ve been seeing my doctor for 10 years now. You must be careful when deciding to go to a pain clinic, make sure your Doctor has good credintials, my doctor comes from India and majors in acupunture natural remedies and pain blocks. I,ve got problems with L4 and L5 of my lower spine. I,m like you I don,t want to get surgery and avoid it at all costs. My doctor said that surgery can really harm that area of the spine and you have to deal with scar tissue. I have had what is called a inter thermal treatment and idet proceedure. It is all out patient. I now get pain blocks on regular basis every 3 months now. It is a good answer along with pain meds if needed. After 10 years I have to tell you it works. I get pain blocks in my neck as well. I have no more migraines. Its a thought for you. Heres a good web sight for you to join its called spinal universe. type that in and check it out its a good sight about pain blocks and other spinal proceedures. Good Health to you!
