Is it safe to do Lumbar traction if you have had cervical spine surgery with screws?

My mom is having physical therapy done on her lumbar area and her PT wants to do traction. But she has had cervical spine surgery this past New Year’s Eve and has screws in her neck. Can it be dangerous to have traction done?

More Information: she is a diabetic

  1. I would talk to the orthopedic or neurosurgeon that performed the surgery to find out exactly what they are comfortable with her doing. Only he/she knows exactly what surgery was performed, and if the traction will help/worsen any problems with the rest of her spine.
