Is it scientifically proven, just like mainstream medicine?
Or is it in the same category as homeopathy, reflexology, acupuncture, etc?
Is it reliable? What does it do actually?

well there was a government study on the best treatment for back pain and it found chiropractic to be the most successful followed by exercise..allopathic treatments were down the list.
I had 4 severely herniated disks in my back from 20 plus wrecks and also being run over by a car and the neurologist said I needed immediate surgery which I refused.
I had to use a wheelchair for anything pass 10 yards and was so bad if I moved in bed 1/2 inch I would scream with pain. It took me 15 minutes to walk tot he next room with the help of my sons and I could not take a shower for 4 or more months because I could not lift my leg high enough to get in due to intense pain that went down to my ankle.
The neurologist became so angry I would not do surgery, he yelled down the hall after me after I said I would try conservative treatment with my chiropractor (as I knew he fixed me before) that "you’ll be back" he said "you will be in too much pain to stand it."
My chiropractor in 12-15 months got me from that to walking 45 or more minutes. I will never be normal due to all my wrecks and injuries and my back hurts when I stand but the improvement was tremendous and it always works for me too.
It is also supposed to keep you healthier by fixing spinal subluxations that block the nerve flow to whatever area that nerve is connected to by removing the pinched nerve status and this increased nerve flow helps fix organs connected to a nerve at C-2 or L-5 or T-3 or where-ever the problems with the slipped disk is,
the study I first mentioned apparently angered the AMA as they successfully removed a study to be done after that on neck injuries and whiplash where chiropractic also does well.
Long ago they did all they could to stop chiropractic like lying about the chiropractic college and some chiropractors sued and won that they tried to ruin the chiropractic business.
Usually when this happens, it has something to do with the alternative health practice having lines of people going there and doctors losing business as the naturopath or chiropractor is more successful in helping the sick person and thus people go there.
If it works like alternative health and chiropractic does, if it is a lot safer than traditional medicines like these things are, and if it is cheaper and less drastic like they are, I personally don’t really care if it passed some science test.
Although I do not personally believe in homeopathy, I once heard of a reflexologist who had overfull waiting room and line out the door (who was subsequently arrested due to complaints by allopaths who want the exclusive profits in this country) and I would assume all these people kept going there because it worked.
Many years ago, when we first started hearing of acupuncture, doctors traveled east and observed people receiving surgery with no anesthesia during surgery and I imagine that says something about it having some benefits or truth to it..it shocked and amazed those that traveled there and watched it.
Alternative health has cured the most incurable of illnesses unlike the allopaths in mainstream medicine
I would never go to a doctor for my back pain as I have found something that works better, is cheaper and less toxic than the anti inflammatory drugs that permanently damaged my mom’s kidneys and lead to dialysis and 9 resulting heart attacks (it increases heart attacks 30 times) and subsequent death.
I first went to a chiropractor in 1971 in a wreck before my marriage as my ex husband convinced me as back then doctors would terrify you and tell you they would break your back/neck and stuff and were very dangerous, but his back would lock him in the bent over position and his blind chiropractor would fix it..he said he watched people in the waiting room go in pain and come out better and that convinced him it was good and he convinced me and I have went ever since..for what 37 years. I so trusted him I let him work on my toddlers.
