my puppies paralyzed in the hind legs. If I stand him he stays like that for about 4 seconds. Is this hopeful?

5 days ago I tossed my puppy onto the bed. When he landed he started to cry and his back legs were limp. I rushed him to the vet and the vet said he had deep pain response. He stayed over night at the vet and in the morning the vet said he didn’t have the pain response anymore. So I rushed him to a specialist to have an MRI done. I was then told that my puppy likely had traumatic vertebral subluxation/reduction. He stayed over night and was give meds. I picked him up the next day and was told he has no control over any of his bows and I have to express him, and there was a 50/50 chance he would recover. I have done physical therapy every day in the bath. I have now seen him pee on his own and try to stand up. His paralyzed legs seem to stretch on there own along with his front paws (he has feeling there). His back paws will sometimes curl and move too. Today I was able to stand him up on all fours and he could support himself for about 4 seconds before slowly lowering back down. Before he couldn’t do this at all. Can anyone tell me if these are good signs of a slow but positive recovery or just something that happens to paralyzed dogs. Thanks for any help or advice.

Has a Chiropractic Adjustment Ever Helped You with a Non-Back or Neck Related Problem?

I am in chiropractic school and before I started, i swore off the idea that chiropractic adjustments can be used to treat health problems, other than muscle and skeletal issues. Basically the idea of a subluxation has seemed nonsensical to me and the idea that getting your spine manipulated can help treat things like ear infections, ADHD, and high blood pressure was stupid.

However, before I continue down that road and focus my future practice on purely muscle and skeletal problems, i would like to research the idea of a vertebral subluxation one more time (obviously doing more research than asking this question on yahoo answers).

So I am wondering, do you feel that chiropractic adjustment has ever helped you with a problem that didn’t involve pain or stiffness in your back and neck?

okay, Violation Notice Email?

So, here’s the deal, I have been reported by this guy twice for answering/pointing out to him that his has asked the same question at least 12 times! "Questions about vertebral subluxation?"

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgAkNB4jhVtuZ9pd8o4vGoAjzKIX?qid=20070504212358AADaLrK

how is it that Charles Miles gets to "Post the same question excessively." and not received violation capital punishment by yahoo Community Guidelines or Terms of Service?
to DARMADAKO: his name is PUBLIC information just like yours! sue me for what?

and to all of you YES, I have reported him, and I hope you guys have also.

cheers!

Are chiropractors confused?

‘Straight’ chiropractors believe that ‘vertebral subluxation complex’ is the leading cause of all disease. ‘Reform’ chiropractors reject this altogether, and ‘Mixer’ chiropractors are on the fence.

Meanwhile, the whole foundation of one branch of chiropractic – ‘Upper Cervical Chiropractic’ – is that subluxation complex is real but occurs in the upper cervical vertebrae only.

Yet the UK regulatory authority, the General Chiropractic Council, advises that chiropractic vertebral subluxation complex "is not supported by any clinical research evidence that would allow claims to be made that it is the cause of disease or health concerns”. http://www.gcc-uk.org/files/link_file/Guidance_on_claims_made_for_the_chiropractic_VSC_18August10.pdf

And the British Chiropractic Association states: "For many years, the BCA has not supported the concept of the Vertebral Subluxation Complex in the light of the absence of evidence supporting claims made it can be the cause of disease and serious illness"

Can anyone shed any light on this mess?

Which type of chiropractor (if any) can you trust for valid treatment and advice?
@Mr E, thanks – that’s an interesting answer.
@Doctor J: ‘Straight’ chiropractic is defined as: “ the practice of chiropractic in strict accordance with the principles of its founder, D.D. Palmer, without additions made by later practitioners. The original definition of subluxation as a vertebral displacement is adhered to..” http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/straight+chiropractic

D.D. Palmer stated: "A subluxated vertebrae . . . is the cause of 95 percent of all diseases. . . . The other five percent is caused by displaced joints other than those of the vertebral column." http://www.worldlingo.com/ma/enwiki/en/Daniel_David_Palmer#cite_note-textbook-1 So where do you get the "myth" conspiracy from?

Yes I do frequently read chiropractic literature, usually when some chiropractor sends it to me. Overall it’s weak, like the stuff you have posted:

The first paper you cite refers to tests carried out on CATS, which concluded “…these parameters MAY be important DETERMINANTS of an HVLA-SM’s therapeutic benefit”.
The second paper you cite is a review of EXPERIMENTAL evidence that concludes: A theoretical framework exists from which HYPOTHESES about …… can be developed, and that more experimental work is warranted.

The third paper you cite is a HYPOTHESIS only. Not research.

These papers mean NOTHING with respect to my question and furthermore they prove NOTHING about the efficacy of any form of chiropractic or the validity of subluxation complex. It really doesn’t matter where they are published, that’s an appeal to authority.

“Allopathy” has nothing to do with my question, alternative medicine or chiropractic, please stay on topic.

You would do better if you just answered the question.

@Dave, thanks – you put it so much better than me… and thanks for that citation.

I’m hoping some more chiropractors will answer. @Lightning, come on – I’m keen to know your opinion too.
@Lightning, thanks – but the founding principles of your profession are not seriously confused, nor disowned by your regulators and associations, are they? So which type of chiropractor (if any) can one trust for valid treatment and advice, in your opinion?
@Lightning, awesome – thumbs up!
@thenoseknows, re: appeal to authority – nonsense, you have no idea. Publication in respected journals does not validate the material. Look at Andrew Wakefield. Citing ‘Natural News’ is what I call an appeal to FALSE authority.

What does Subluxation of L5 mean?

I recently got a back x-ray and the results came back "there is a mild grade I posterior subluxation of L5 with relation to S1 vertebral body." I play volleyball and this paper got sent to my trainers, I practiced today and my back hurts so bad now, Im not sure what to do or what that even means.

Vertebral sublixation?!?!?!?!?

Can a vertebral subluxation be caused by a trauma?
Can a vertebral subluxation be caused by a human punch?
How hard does the impact needs to be for a vertebral sublixation to occur?
Can I recover normally without treatment if I have a vertebral subluxation?
If sombody can see/ feel my back, he’d notice I have:
a) a vertebra a bit more to the right than the rest by less than an inch
b) unequal spacing between vertebrae
Can I have the same feeling as a funnybone when someone hits me in the backbone (a fast small shock)?
How do I know if I have a vertebral subluxation?
If I can move everything in my body without any difficulty, do I have a vertebral subluxation?
when a month later have past from the hit,and I have nothing wrong, no pain no numbness, have I recovered?
CAN A VERTEBRAL SUBLIXATION STUNT GROWTH?
