Sometimes at the beginning of treatment chiropractic adjustments can make your pain level much worse. This is usually due to the muscles having changed to adapt from an old injury and when the adjustment starts to correct your spine the muscles need to stretch or contract – hence the pain. This can last for several weeks or more but as your back muscles adjust the pain goes away. Also, sometimes a person has osteoporosis and may not know it and then the adjustment can cause pain or even a damaged vertebrae. If you are going to have a Dr adjust your spine and your pain is severe, make sure you trust the Dr, they have taken an x-ray of the problem and that they are not making a bad situation worse.
